Bowman Company Profile

Bowman is a privately owned technology company, based in Southampton (UK) with world class expertise and experience in 3 key technology areas:

1. Compact, reliable, efficient, turbomachinery;
2. High speed, high efficiency electrical machines;
3. Software controlled power management electronics.

Since 2004 Bowman has further developed and utilised these technologies to enhance Diesel engine fuel efficiency.  Bowman is working with several global engine and commercial vehicle manufacturers to bring this technology to market and to improve the fuel economy of new heavy duty diesel engines.

The Executive Directors of the Board are:

Tony Davies, CEO:
Tony Davies founded Bowman Power and financed the early development of the business. Tony is currently the CEO of Bowman Power and holds non-exec directorships of Aeroform Group plc, Ocean Quay Management and Marine Current Turbines. He also advises two VC funds, TTP Ventures in Cambridge and Bank Invest in Denmark.

Following the purchase of his first business by Schlumberger, he ran their electronics operation of 1,000 people for 2 years and managed the $0.5b acquisition of Fairchild for Schlumberger.

In parallel with his business activity, he has been a director of, or adviser to, various VC funds for the past 25 years, including managing his own fund, SED Ventures, from 1990 to 1996.

Tony was also an Industrial Adviser to UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher from 1981 to 1986 and currently chairs the Southampton Hub, a local government body supporting new business activity in the Southampton area sponsored by SEEDA (South East England Development Authority) and the University of Southampton.

David Lamb – Finance Director
David’s background is in the manufacturing/transport sector - his last position was No. 2 at Raymarine Plc, within the marine electronics sector. David is CIMA qualified and has considerable experience in strategic financial development of business including mergers and acquisitions and successful business exit strategy in a privately owned environment. David also holds a degree in Medical Biochemistry from Leicester University.

Dick Tett – Commercial Director
Dick holds an Honors’ Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Manchester University.

He has extensive experience within the Transportation, Marine and Power Generation Industries. He has held senior sales and commercial position with GEC, Alstom and MAN.  His product background includes steam turbines, gas turbines and diesel engines.

Dick joined Bowman from MAN Diesel UK, where he was Vice President with responsibility for engine manufacturing, packaging, assembly and test, as well as Application Engineering, Sales and Contract handling.

Jon McGuire – Engineering Director
Jonathan is responsible for all business and product development programmes including direct responsibility for the engineering team.

He has over 11 years of experience of working within the Utility Industry for Powergen, coordinating and heading international projects.  Jonathan has a strong technical background in electro-mechanical engineering, obtaining his degree from Aston University.
